Okay, I've finally figured this whole blog thing out! I know this is a bit late, but here is my opinion on the Digital Life video:
The video, Digital Life, was created by a history teacher in Hawaii. The title basically gives you an idea of what the video is about: humans and their relationship with, and dependency on modern-day technology. I, for one, completely agree with the message she is giving through the video, as it is very easy to see really how much humans depend on their electronic devices. In this video, she sings a lot about how we've become so much more dependent on our phones, apps, and even things like GPS. This is very true, as I think many of us are losing our social functions as human beings...I mean, why would you actually go talk to your friend when you can text them instead? This is how many people (particulary teenagers and young adults) feel when it comes to being social. Even strange lingo from the Internet has somehow made its way into our speech. Do you ever people going around saying 'OMG' or 'LOL'? Of course you have! However, it's very unlikely you would have seen people saying that, say, 30 years ago, when there was no Internet. Even when Twitter started up in 2006, people started going #hashtag #crazy! I remember being confused when I first joined Twitter...'Why do people have number signs in front of their words? Is that really necessary?'
The part I really found interesting about the video is that she mentioned the idea that technology might change our biology. Could human beings adapt themselves to become even more suited to technology? I suppose her suggestion could come true...if you look at it this way, who is more tech savvy? Grandparents or teenagers? This generation was kind of born into the tech age, so it's easy to see why maybe teens are used to it and grandparents may still be adjusting. But what happens when users of this new technology start becoming younger and younger? Nowadays, you can see 6-year olds with iPhones (I've seen a few!) or iPods. What happens when babies are being born ready to tweet and go "#hashtag #crazy"? It kind of crazy if you think about it, but this just may become the case in the near future as technology becomes even more advanced.
Overall, I thought this was a great video, and I thought the teacher brought up a great point, which allows the tech savvy to think, 'How dependent am I really, when it comes to my phone?' We may not think much of it when we Instagram pictures of everything we eat, or tweet 24/7, but she shows us how really dependent we are on our technology. I know I rarely go on Twitter or Instagram, but I agree with her point 101%. It was a great watch! :)
Your response was well-written and you have great examples! I like how you brought up the issue of how dependent we really are on our technology; it made me a little bit scared considering the amount of time I spend online and on my phone! Good Job Brianna!
ReplyDeleteI liked your hashtags Brianna - it added some humor to your response! I definitely agreed with your response, and I found that some of your points actually related to me, personally, so that was eye opening. Good job on having a structured beginning and ending!
